Welcome to Horn STEM Elementary!

It is with great excitement, gratitude, and humility that I join the Horn STEM community as your principal. My name is Tara Segars Hawkins, and I bring 19 years of experience in public education, including 7 years teaching 3rd and 4th grade math and science and 12 years in campus leadership. Throughout my career, I have served as a Teacher Specialist, Dean of Instruction, Math Consultant, and Assistant Principal supporting students, teachers, and families across diverse learning communities. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana State University, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Houston- Downtown and a Texas Principal Certification from Region 4 Education. As a second-career educator, I am deeply passionate about helping students discover their potential, develop confidence in their abilities, and prepare for a future filled with opportunities.

At Horn STEM Elementary, I believe every child deserves access to high-quality instruction, meaningful learning experiences, and a school environment where they feel valued, challenged, and inspired. My leadership philosophy is rooted in building strong relationships, while maintaining high expectations, and ensuring that every decision we make is centered on what is best for students. Together, we will continue to cultivate a culture of innovation, curiosity, and continuous discovery where students develop a love for learning through STEM experiences, academic excellence, and real-world problem-solving.
